MANOA
Manoa in Hawaiian, means thick, solid, vast, depth or thickness. Manoa or Manoa Valley, is an older, well established charming neighborhood full of character located in Honolulu. The area of Manoa is about 3 miles long and runs down from inland at Manoa Falls. It is a very favorable residential community known for it's abundant tropical plants, large older trees, waterfalls, and historic feel. The neighborhood is comprised of older, classic, plantation style type homes, mostly built before the 1960s.
Manoa is also home to the University of Hawaii at Manoa which offers over 200 degree programs including the highly ranked William S. Richardson School of Law, Shidler College of Business and John A. Burns School of Medicine. Other well-known schools located in Manoa are Punahou School, Maryknoll School, and Mid-Pacific Institute to name a few.
In the heart of Manoa Valley, conveniently located is the commercial district which includes a multitde of retail stores and restaurants for Manoa residents to enjoy. The main shopping area here is called Manoa Marketplace where they have farmers markets, bakeries, restaurants, grocery stores, and locally owned boutique type businesses! Manoa Valley Theatre, located next to Manoa Marketplace, is a community theatre that benefits local performing artists that entertains and enriches Hawaii's audiences through their live performances.
Besides the specialty shops, eateries and local farmer's market, Manoa has outdoor physical activities for both locals and tourists to enjoy - the Manoa Falls hiking trail is a nice & relaxing hike great for all ages and families and The Lyon Arboretum, part of the University of Hawaii, is a beautiful botanical garden with many trails for all to enjoy.
